Not surprise but shameful when the headline of the hockey town's newspaper headlining "Raptors bright light in city of losers". But who can argue when the Toronto Star comment the Toronto Maple Leafs "Leaf fans, in contrast, can't talk about the June draft (too depressing), the Marlies (in last place), the improvement curve of Phil Kessel (somehow out of shape), or even the cathartic sacking of their coach (at least until after the Olympics)."
Toronto, the hockey town in a hockey country. While Canada are looking for gold in the upcoming Olympics, we are talking about winning the upcoming draft order for the Maple Leafs. Irony? Hang on, not quite there yet...
While many people anticipate the involvement of Brian Burke, not only he is the first non-Canadian Maple Leafs GM, now he is the GM of US Olympics Team. We need an American to structure Canada's most significant hockey club. Just like England Football team needed Eriksson (from Sweden) or Capello (from Italy) to lead the football country. Will there be loyalty? Will there be the fire? Will there be the spirit? Or its only a job for these builders? History will figure it out.
